Captain’s report of Nomads Golf Club Brisbane to National Executive 2011
Membership
We are a little over 3 years old now and have 81 paid up members and 3 prospective members. The majority of golf clubs allow us to have a two tee off start with 30 spots on each tee. We are certainly having no problem filling the field but still have the occasional problem of one or two last minute withdrawals. Unfortunately our year got off to a fairly rough start as we had to cancel January’s monthly game due to the floods in Brisbane. Some of us saw fit to still play golf on that day where they could instead lending a charitable hand and were fined accordingly. We also had to deal with our vice captain resigning as he was offered a training position to become an air traffic controller and had to move to Melbourne but this position was very capably filled by Dave Pichanick.
Charity Day 2011
In May we held our second Charity Day at Gailes Golf Club and I thank Johan Landsberg for coming to Brisbane to support our day. Dave Pichanick did an exceptionally good job organizing this day. Our nominated charity was Prostrate Cancer Foundation of Australia. Prostrate cancer is the most common cancer in Australian men so everyone in this room should be ok. We donated a cheque of $12500 on the day and will probably have enough money in the coffers to donate a further $10000 at the end of the year. This year we handed out the raffle tickets a lot earlier which help us raise more money on the day.
Sponsors
We still have our loyal sponsors namely Drummond Golf of Fortitude Valley, Bayfield printing, Bluelily Studios and Unispan. I believe that Wayne Richardson may have found a new sponsor who is sponsoring our nationals and may want to sponsor our competitions throughout the year.
Financial Status
We have continued our very healthy financial position into 2011. This year we raised our annual subs by $99 so that everyone gets an official AGU handicap. There was very little resistance to this which was great. Due to us having a field of 60 at all our games we will be able to make another substantial donation to the prostrate foundation as I metioned earlier.
Monthly green fees on average are costing $35 per game and most of the clubs have kept their 2011 charges similar.
My committee this year has been made up of very new Nomads but the year so far has gone exceptionally well as we have had the invaluable support of some old stalwarts in the wings namely Paul McIlroy , Wayne Richardson and Dave Pelan. A very big thanks to Gavin Cubbin our treasurer and secretary.
We have a growing number of enthusiastic youngsters forming our membership. They are also extremely keen to be part of the committee. I believe that this is essential to the growth and longevity of the club.
It has been a priveledge for me to be Captain of Nomads Golf Club Brisbane and I enjoyed being part of a dedicated team who are committed to the growth and wellbeing of this wonderful organisation.
